Nanny Connie's Takeaways for Parents

  • Be Flexible — No two parent journeys are the same, so stop looking for the same outcome as your friends. Every child you have also comes with their own unique ideas for what life should and could be... In other words, what you did with baby one may or may not work for baby two or three.
  • "Less is best" — When it comes to gadgets in the beginning, less is best. When you bring a baby home, you are the gadget. New parents will need a bassinet, burp cloths, swaddles, diapers, and changing station, but what your baby needs most is you. Put the dang electronics away and connect with your children. They are screaming for your attention!!
  • Consistency — Create a soothing routine for baby that can be replicated every night. Consistency is key! Try dimming the lights, a warm bath, and soothing music. This is the first step to sleep training.
  • Keep fathers involved — Give dad specific tasks like, ‘Stock up the changing table' or 'Fix my breastfeeding area.’ Communication is key after birth and dads need to know they have a role to play in your family’s new chapter.
  • Dark Beer for Breastfeeding — Dark beer helps new moms with milk production. You want the yeast -- and dark beer has more of the yeast than regular beer.
  • A Thought on Teens — Just because you get your kids to the preteens and teen years doesn't mean you can coast into the end zone!!!! In all actuality, the score is tied, and it’s the fourth quarter, so get your s*** together and keep your head in the game.
  • Celeb Parents — Celebrities parent their children just as we parent ours... They parent even harder because they’re looked at underneath fine telescopes.
